Welcome to Well Beings

Well Beings is an independent queer publication launched in late 2024 by me, BJ Ferguson. Newsletter-blog and community, Well Beings is a hub for liberation learning and community building focused on wellness, creativity and magic through a (neuro, gender)queer trans lens, or, as I like to call it, "witchy wellness for the end of the world (as we know it)."

Subscription Access

If you subscribe today, you will receive email newsletters about new content when it's available, and notification about courses and events in the future. Your subscription makes this site possible, and allows Well Beings to continue to exist.

As you'll see, there is a free membership level for multiply-marginalized queer folks, in particular QTPOC and my disabled queer brethren. There are four paid tiers, which offer different kinds of access. The three lower-cost options are sliding scale community subscriptions. This not only allows you access to the newsletter, but to the future community space for Well Beings, including courses and events.

Sliding Scale: the green bottle method

My favorite sliding scale model is the green bottle method described by Alexis J. Cunningfolk at WortsAndCunning.

"Financial Privilege" and determining where you fall on the sliding scale

Using this scale, you can determine which of the three levels is most appropriate for your subscription, and of course as these circumstances can quickly change, you can change your tier at any time.

All About BJ (he/they)

I've worked as a journalist and content creator in the lifestyle niche, with a special interest in health, wellness, sexuality, and identity, for two decades. Check out my professional bio here. I am queer, gay, bisexual. I am transmasculine and genderqueer. I am also white, fat, a settler and an immigrant, Canadian, autistic, ADHD, neurodivergent, neuroqueer, disabled and chronically ill. I am a witch, an animist, a spirit worker. I am an amateur astrologer and card reader, an intuitive medium and guide in divine works.

My passion for this work stems from my personal experiences as a multiply-marginalized person, my desire for creative expression, and my ancestral connection to the healing arts. Since I was a child helping my mother study for her nursing continued education exams or memorize facts about the uses of essential oils for her aromatherapy certification, I have been drawn to healing practices.

But I have also been drawn to the creative arts. I have played violin for almost forty years, though sadly with some lengthy gaps. I love to write, to sing, to draw and paint and collage. I adore watching plants grow and nurture living creatures into our own best most thriving selves, in community with each other, in spite of the forces of capitalism and oppression that seek to destroy us. I dream of leaving a legacy of liberation.

A Vision for Well Beings

I want Well Beings to be a space of both refuge and bravery, a space for creative exploration, community magic- and meaning-making, for healing and for holding each other in our woundedness.

I want to offer a view of magical practice rooted in queerness and transness, rather than repeating the same old stereotypes of the "divine feminine" and "divine masculine" — here we worship the divine daddy dyke and the divine femboy faggot, the divine monster, the divine whore, the divine creatrix and destructrix.

Here we break binaries as well as cycles.
